GetLyrics 1.0

Here's my first attempt at a Media Center background addin. My first app was hosted HTML. GetLyrics does not have a GUI other than media centers GUI.

This is what it does:

Get Lyrics is a background addin that will automatically scrape lyrics from the internet for the currently playing song in media center. When lyrics are downloaded a popup will appear with lyrics. Like so:

Then you can hit view, to display lyrics in a messagebox. Like so:

After lyrics are downloaded they are saved in MyDocuments/MyLyrics
This was Designed for MCE 2005 Rollup 2
IF YOUR ID3 TAGS ARE INCORRECT THEN IT CANT DOWNLOAD THE LYRICS
Also, all of my apps are made for english versions of MCE

Any way to change the amount of lines of lyrics that appear in the pop up window? I would like it to show more lines of text.

Love the concept. My machine has the My Lyric folder, complete with the right lyric content, but never produces an on screen popup. What could I be missing?

Thanks!! Nice stuff.

hey Great concept buddy! But the pop up never appears.I'm using XP Media centre 2005 update rollup2.I'm also using vista transformation pack 6.Could it be because of this? I had a lot of problems while installing the transformation pack and I finally got it working so I dont want to take it off for some more time! :) I'm using minilyrics too. That works fine for WMP and winamp. But I SO want to have the lyrics show on my MC!!! :) please please can you tell me how to get it right??? pretty please! :)

Hey Neelesh,

Do any MCE plugins work for you?

I don't know, I wrote this one a long time ago, and I've been thinking about a total rewrite. It could be done so much better. Maybe soon I will try again.

I'll be waiting :D

It actually downloads the lyrics in to the temp file in the my documents folder. Nothing ever pops up in MCE, though. I'll see if I can figure it out.

Any news on an update? I was wondering if it was a windows update that might've broke the plugin. Everything's embedded in the .dll so I can't take a crack at it.

How do you get it to install in Vista? Getting an DEP error while installing. Any ideas.

I doubt this works on Vista. It was made before Vista was even out.

Sorry guys this doesn't work at all anymore.. The site was was getting the lyrics from is fuxored.

There are plenty of alternative soft wares that can produce this functionality. This project is dead.

TreasOn,

I have spent the last hour or so searching for getting Lyrics on MC and it looks like your project was the closest! It is amazing that no one has developed an alternative (or that I can't find one) or one that works on Vista or 7!

Thanks for your earlier efforts. If you ever plan an update, I will be first in line!

I can't believe how much of this I just wasn't aware of. Thank you for bringing more information to this topic for me. I'm truly grateful and really impressed.
