My DVD's for avi's

So i must be bored again, cuz I am thinking about creating another plugin. MyDvd's is a feature that comes with rollup2. Read more here: http://blog.mattgoyer.com/categories/mediaCenter/2005/10/20.html

I wrote a My Movies type plugin but never released it because hosted HTML apps blow on a media center. They never quite look right. My DVD's on the other hand looks great. The downside to My DVD's is that it is only for DVDs. So I am thinking about writing a plugin to trick media center into playing avi's through My DVD's. Chances are nobody reads this blog, but in case someone is, what do you think of the idea. Is this a worthwild venture, or just alot of code for no reason?

Well I read this...
What exactly is it supposed to look like? How would you add movies to it?

It would have a simliar inferace for adding movies as MyMovies has but without the hosted html MCE interface.

If you make a tool to import from my movies it could be great (already got 250 movies there)
Go for it!

I would definitely be interested in this... in fact, I'm bookmarking your page just in case you make it at a later date.

That would be neat. Anything that improves on the worthless "My Videos" interface has my vote. Us MCE 2005 users could really benefit from a better video management app.

btw IMHO hosted apps are the only improvement Vista offers. I know that is a big one but beyond that it is incredibly bloated and slow compared to MCE 2005 which runs on modest hardware and has vastly better driver and software support.

MCE 2005 forever! Or something like that.

I've just setup a vista htpc and am trying it out now for the first time with "my movies". The plug in is just too much for what I need, and came to your blog searching exactly for this: a way to play avi movies within the dvd gallery (if that's what you planning to do).

I hope you get it done soon!
If you need any help testing it, let me know.

I have a lot of AVI movies and have been searching for a plugin that will allow me to create a moviename.txt file with the description of the movie, so when I hit Info on the remote it will bring up this description. Can't find something so simple anywhere. I don't have the time to spend on these bloated movie manager type plugins. Make it easy and simple.

I've been looking for a plugin to organize all my avi (divx, xvid, etc..) It would be great if you started or completed this project. I can code in .NET so I can possibly help.

I'd love to have something like this, "MyMovies" is too bloated and lags like crazy for me, I just want a simple interface with small amount of details
