BookMarkIt!

BookMarkIt! is my 3rd Media center application. If Micro$oft did a better job with MediaCenter maybe I would'nt have to write so many damn plugins. This one only took a couple hours to create.

I wrote this because I can never finish a movie in one sitting, so this app allows me to resume the video from the last saved video bookmark.
I hate the fact that I cannot fastforward quickly on a DivX, XviD or Mpeg.
I have to use Skip, which takes forever if your video is long.
BookMarkIt! will create a bookmark in whatever video file you are viewing in MyVideos so you can resume from that bookmark at a later point.

Usage: Once your video is playing, click the i (more info) button on your remote or right click with your mouse, then choose More... Then you will see a screen like this:

Then simply hit Save bookmark to save, or open bookmark to resume from saved bookmark.

I have only tried this on MCE2005 with rollup2. I am unsure about other versions.

Cool. I have a request though. Is it possible to do a "auto-bookmark" where it automatically can resume from last "played" location.

A simple implementation might be an automatic bookmark created/updated each 30 secs (besides the manually created bookmark).

This way, you could just "leave" the movie and pick up within 30 secs of where you were by selecting the "Auto bookmark".

Comments?

Hey Thomas,

I thought about doing exactly that but I think AVI controller 2 might be a better place to put it. The new avi controller is packaged with MCE File Broswer 2.0. It's much more powerful because you can skip anywhere with it's built in progress bar.

Will this work with mymovies?

Great tool, but i've found that if you bookmark a video and then start watching another video, then try come back to the saved bookmark it doesn't work saying "No bookmarks" However, If i bookmark a particular video then immediately try load it again it works fine. Has anyone else had similar problems?

Q: Will this work with mymovies?

A: Yes it will.

Q: if you bookmark a video and then start watching another video, then try come back to the saved bookmark it doesn't work saying "No bookmarks"

A: the minute you start playing video 2 Bookmarkit will look for a bookmark in only that video. In order to retreive a bookmark in video1, video1 must be playing.

Hope this helps

Love the concept of this. This is one of the cooler features Xbox XBMC has. I would love to see the auto-resume from where you stop on the video though.

However, I cannot get this to function. I have tried files from both network source and local hard drive and bookmarks don't seem to save and/or load.

I am on Rollup 2 with all updates as of March 7th. Any help would be appreciated. BTW, I have performed a repair of the plug as well.

Many, many thanks for this plugin!

Wilhito,

I didn't respond because I don't have a simple solution for you. I have seen this happen before. read this thread: http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/community/mce-plugins-addons/16283-error-installing-addins.html?highlight=bookmarkit

lentest only fixed it after a clean install.

Sorry bro

When I tried uninstalling this pluggin, it left the "Open Bookmark" item in the More... menu. Is there a way to fix this issue manually??

Anonymous said...

I think you can right click (i) then remove.. or remove it from the more programs menu using the same method.

BookMarkIt! does not appear in the More Programs submenu. It only appears in the More... submenu when right-clicking on a video file. When right clicking on the "Open Video Bookmark" item in the More... submenu, the only option is "Settings" which brings you to the standard Media Center settings page.

Other ideas?

Ah - thanks - just what I needed. BookMarkIt uninstaller was leaving behind one of it's Entry Points in the registry.

Hey,

Nice add-on, works great. A big thanks to you!

I was wondering though, if it was possible for this bookmark app to work on DVD's. Most of the time thats what i'm watching, so if it's possible it would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Matt

Believe it or not this plugin is the one reason I have not upgraded to Vista yet. Yes the family uses it that much! Keep up the great work.

Treas0n said...

Wow Mark,

Once I get Vista myself, I'll recode the plugin for ya.

this is a great plugin, combined with your avicontroller is all you need to watch videos. Keep up the awesome work, hopefully those 2 plugins will work in vista soon.

I'm having the issue I've seen elsewhere where the install fails with a message to the effect of "this addin can only be installed on a media center edition of Windows XP" and I have Windows MCE with all the updates. Any advice? How about a manual install procedure (I extracted the msi)?

Hi. I've been using BookmarkIt for a while now and its great but just updated to Windows 7 and notice that there is now no "more" option when you do a "right click". Is there a Windows 7 supported version of BookMarkIt yet?
thanks

Hi there, I'm still trying to use Bookmarkit! on my xbox360 mce 2005 extender. There's no way to make the mcx user access the file bookmark.txt in ehome so my question is: is there a way to change the file location in the program code in some way?? Thank you very much for your help and my compliments for the very good work. carlozzoc@excite.it
